Dusk, fog,
storms, stairsteps, bridges, old buildings, cemetaries... these are some of my
favorite photographic subjects. Unfortunately, I've never been able to capture a
really impressive lightning bolt on film. This picture is the product of an
experiment in digital enhancement: an old rectory-in-the-fog photo combined with
a nighttime lightning storm... and quite a bit of help from Corel PhotoPaint ;-)
"Nevermore"
This is an unaltered photo I shot from the top of the Empire State Building in NYC back in the summer of 2000.
Notice the Twin Towers in the background.
Though the bird isn't a raven... its darkness is due to camera exposure...
in memory of the events of 9/11 I've renamed the picture after a line in one of my favorite poems by Edgar Allen Poe.
And the Raven, never flitting, still is
sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above
my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a
demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming
throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that
lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted--
nevermore!
"Feline Noir"
I shot this picture of my dear feline companion Monday, a contemplative, moody True Sister of the Moon, a few years ago;
it's one of my favorite images of her. Last December she passed over to the Summerlands
but I can still feel her spirit around me.
You can view her memorial page here if you like. This photo was
taken in the natural light of our kitchen with a non-digital Pentax, printed and scanned.
I liked the contrasty effect... it suited her personality!... so I didn't retouch it at all.
This was taken in Ithaca, NY at dusk in an old cemetary at the edge of town and altered just a bit in PhotoLine.
Another portrait
taken at Old Westbury Gardens, shot by John and altered by me.
Me again, taken by John right before we left for a Halloween/Samhain party last
year. You can see some unaltered pre-party pictures on the costume page On this one, I did the
"special effects" in PhotoLine.
More photos to come... some
altered, some not... so please stop back again.
